Thieves target Sea Scouts for second time, scuppering sailing program

“Everybody’s really disappointed; I think that’s the overwhelming emotion,” said Theo Underwood, commissioner of the 12th Garry Oak Sea Scouts. “All the things you think are good in the world are Scouts and these kinds of programs. So for people to come and knock us off and then not feel any remorse about it … This is the kind of thing [where] I expect somebody to turn them in two weeks later, not come back five months later and finish the job.” Underwood said the latest theft effectively scuppers the group’s sailing program, because sailboats are only allowed on the water if a motorized inflatable is nearby for safety reasons.

Police follow trail of vehicle fluid to find drug-impaired driver who hit hydro pole

While a B.C. Hydro crew arrived to repair the damaged pole, the police officers followed a trail of leaking vehicle fluid from the collision site. The trail led officers to the area of Harriet Road and Burnside Road East, where they located both the damaged vehicle and driver from the collision. Based on the driver’s behaviour, officers suspected he was impaired by drugs. Officers conducted a field sobriety test, after which the driver was served with a 24-hour driving prohibition. The driver also received violation tickets for failing to remain at the scene of a collision and collision resulting in property damage.
