Telangana sanctions Rs 853 cr to strengthen Hyderabad’s flood control system By IANS|   Posted by Minhaj Adnan  |   Updated: 8th April 2021 6:52 pm IST Hyderabad: To prevent a repeat of the mayhem wreaked on Hyderabad following unprecedentedly heavy rainfall in October last year, the Telangana government has drawn out an elaborate plan to strengthen the existing stormwater drain system in the city. The plan, which includes remodelling of drains, and construction of surplus weirs, has received administrative clearance for Rs 853 crore from the state government. It covers the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, and surrounding municipal bodies. The move, which comes in the aftermath of October 2020 flood, is aimed at preventing inundation of low-lying areas and to mitigate damages suffered due to heavy rains. The state government issued orders directing the officials to execute the works and ensure that inundation of low-lying areas do not recur.

Rama Rao on Thursday directed officials to expand the Telangana Fiber Grid (T-Fiber) project to all the municipalities across the state. As part of the project expansion, the Minister directed the officials to conduct a survey in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and submit a report at the earliest. KTR, as the Minister is popularly known, on Thursday held a meeting with the Telangana Fiber Grid Corporation Board meeting at T-Hub. He enquired about the work status of T-Fiber.

Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday said a person not wearing a mask in public will be fined Rs 1,000 and asked the police strictly enforce mask-on rule. The Chief Minister, who review Covid situation in the state at a meeting with ministers and top officials, said that wearing of masks should be enforced strictly to contain the spread of the pandemic. If the people do not wear masks they should be fined Rs 1,000 per person. He wanted the Director General of Police (DGP) to instruct the police department to enforce this mask rule stringently.
