Get to know: Joeboy, the next big Afrobeats star

Earlier this month, Nigerian artist Joeboy released his long-awaited debut album, the contemplatively titled Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic.  The response, particularly in his homeland, has been huge; perhaps unsurprising given the 22-year-old has been on a sharp upward trajectory since the release of 2019 s Love & Light EP.  The record is a confidently slick affair, a 14 track, feature-less set that strikes a clever balance between sounding both joyously hopeful and cooly serene while nodding to the current Afrobeats superstars. Its current single, Focus, has seen his sound reach new territories, recently becoming his first headline entry on the UK s Official Afrobeats Chart.

The songs with three or more stints at Irish Number 1

Getting to Number 1 is no easy feat, and holding on to the top spot is a tough task. Returning to the summit, well, that is even more difficult. Rebounding back to Number 1 on multiple occasions? It is pretty much unheard of. In modern Irish chart history, just three songs have enjoyed three or more separate stints at Number 1, with just one hitting Number 1 on four different occasions. So what qualities make a song possess that magic, bounce-back ability? In the case of these three history makers, they’re all instantly catchy and are related to a popular TV show or film, putting the stars behind them in the eyes of wider audiences than perhaps they would have without that association.

Lil Tjay & 6LACK s Calling My Phone is the biggest trending song in the UK

Lil Tjay & 6LACK dial up to Number 1 on the Official Trending Chart with their huge new single Calling My Phone. The track has flown straight to the top of the Top 20 biggest trending singles in the UK following a huge reaction since its release, which has seen it making waves across streaming services globally. Originally teased by rapper, singer & songwriter Lil Tjay back on December 18, the song has been a couple of months in the making as Tjay shared snippets with fans across social media. After bringing on 6LACK for the feature, hype for the track grew as the pair continued to share teasers of information about the song and its video up until the day of release (February 12). The song s lyrics about an ex that won t stop getting in touch also make it an attention-grabbing choice to drop on Valentine s weekend.
