Man injured in shooting involving police near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street

PHOENIX â Authorities say a 19-year-old man is in critical condition after a shooting involving Phoenix police Tuesday afternoon.
Police say about 3:53 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call in the area of 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road for reports of a man throwing rocks at vehicles in a business parking lot. The caller told police the man threatened him with a knife when he confronted him.
Two officers located the man and gave him verbal commands to stop what he was doing. Police say the man ignored the commands and began walking backwards away from the officers while armed with a knife.
