THE Times Higher Education (THE) has released its long-anticipated, prestigious 2021 Global University Rankings for the category national, regional and international “Impact”. The best universities are ranked using “Impact” as the criterion for measuring their performance excellence.

The rankings for 2021 are more competitive than prior years. In 2020, 768 universities were ranked from 85 countries. In 2021, the number increased to 1,115 universities from 98 countries and cities, an increase of 45%.

UWI ‘ready to deploy’ for St Vincent’s aid

Declaring it stands in full solidarity with the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the University of the West Indies said Wednesday it is ready to mobilize the full strength of its engineering, research, and humanitarian connections in response to La Soufriere volcanic eruptions.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Global Affairs and Principal of the UWI Open Campus, Dr Luz Longsworth, told an online forum to outline UWI’s response to the disaster that current and former UWI students from across the diaspora have already shown interest in donating funds and items towards the relief effort, with the university already setting up bank accounts both regionally and internationally to accept funds.
Top biz execs ‘to look at UWI Cave Hill financial woes’

A high-powered team of regional business executives is to form a “Corporate Investment Committee” to help the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill with risk management through its financial struggles, UWI Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has announced.
Representatives are to meet with the Mia Mottley administration next week to help put together a “high-level team” to examine the financially struggling institution’s balance sheet, said Sir Hilary on Friday during the Council Meeting of the Cave Hill Campus.
He said: “We have brought on board some of the finest financial corporate leaders in the region, and we have brought them hitherto, to constitute themselves into a committee which we have called the Corporate Investment Committee.
