This event is designed to share some smiles and laughter with our students, families and local providers. Families will drive from “trunk-to-trunk” to gain information about local business, community resources and school resources that are available to them. We will respect social distancing guidelines.

All schools in the district in Northeastern Massachusetts were closed, as a “significant number” of staff were set to get their second shots Sunday, according to a tweet from the district. “There is a high likelihood we would not have enough staff to run our schools on Monday,” the district wrote in its tweet. Two political novices comfortably out-polled 12-year incumbent Deb Kuzmeskas in Monday’s annual town election in each community. Elaine Gauthier topped the balloting in Athol, garnering 260 votes, while another political newcomer, Lonnin Bonenfant, finished close behind with 244. Kuzmeskas trailed with a total of 87 votes. Gauthier and Bonenfant handily carried all three precincts in Athol. Vote totals were as follows: Precinct 1: Gauthier 102, Bonenfant 93, Kuzmeskas 31; Precinct 2: Gauthier 101, Bonenfant 94, Kuzmeskas 34; Precinct 3: Gauthier 57, Bonenfant 57, Kuzmeskas 22.

Athol Royalston Regional School District cancels classes on Monday after 100 teachers get second COVID shot, many call out sick after ‘not feeling well’ Updated 11:03 AM; Over the weekend 100 teachers and staff at Athol Royalston Regional School District got their second COVID vaccine, but the shot left many of them feeling sick. “On Saturday 100 of our teachers and staff had their second Covid vaccine shot,” the district said in a statement. “This evening we have received many calls from staff and teachers not feeling well.” The school then had to canceled classes for Monday, citing the number of teachers and staff who had already called out sick.
