After going undrafted in the NFL draft, former Syracuse punter Nolan Cooney signed with the New Orleans Saints on Saturday evening. Defensive back Trill Williams who also went undrafted signed with New Orleans earlier Saturday, and Andre Cisco and Ifeatu Melifonwu were both taken in the third round on Friday night. Cooney had previously been spotted working with the Saints’ special teams coordinator at SU’s Pro Day in March.
Boston College LB Isaiah McDuffie
GREEN BAY – One round after drafting a big defensive lineman for the middle of their defense, the Packers added an inside linebacker as well.
Green Bay chose Boston College s Isaiah McDuffie with its second sixth-round pick on Saturday, No. 220 overall.
McDuffie (6-1, 224) led his team last season with 107 tackles, a total that ranked fifth in the country. He broke into the Eagles starting lineup in 2018, when he finished second on the team with 85 tackles, but then missed all but four games in 2019 due to injury.
In 2020, he was named second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference and recorded a career-high 16 tackles in a big showdown with second-ranked Notre Dame.

The Miami Dolphins continued to bolster their roster Friday night on the second day of the NFL Draft, selecting two players among the first 42 overall picks and adding another playmaker in the third round.
Miami made Oregon safety Jevon Holland and Notre Dame offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg its first of three picks on the evening.
Second Round
Holland was the fourth player of the evening to have his name called, going to Miami with the No. 36 overall pick.
The Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist opted out of the 2020 season, but he made the most of his two playing seasons with the Ducks.

He was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection as a redshirt junior in 2020.The 21-year-old was also an academic standout at Syracuse. He was selected to the ACC Honor Roll three times while earning a degree in economics.Melifonwu s older brother, Obi Melifonwu, was a 2017 second-round draft pick of the then-Oakland Raiders out of the University of Connecticut. Former Syracuse defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu was selected 101st overall in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions on Friday night. It is the second straight year two former Orange players have been drafted. Alton Robinson and Sterling Hofrichter were taken in the fifth and seventh rounds, respectively, in the 2020 draft.
Melifonwu is the second SU player drafted in 2021. Fellow DB Andre Cisco went 65th overall in the third round to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Trill Williams is projected to be selected sometime on the third day of the draft, scheduled for Saturday.
