The Trinamul Congress leadership in north Bengal has launched an initiative to woo Rajbanshi Muslims at a time the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was planning to field candidates in some Assembly seats.
Omprakash Mishra, a Trinamul leader who had been camping here for the past few days and holding talks with party leaders and different organisations, urged the Nasya Sheikh community (Rajbanshi Muslims) to stand in support of Mamata Banerjee and her party to prevent the AIMIM from dividing the minority votes.

The Murshidabad unit of the All India Imam-Muezzin and Social Welfare Organisation on Sunday held a general meeting here and emphasised the need to elect a “secular and competent” party in Bengal in order to do away with “divisive forces in the country”.

Azad met Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar in Lucknow on Saturday. “The Dalits and most backward classes are struggling to survive in Uttar Pradesh. We discussed this.,” said Chandrashekhar.
Rajbhar, who has named the new formation Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha, said Azad had agreed to join the alliance. He said the alliance would be one of the most formidable forces to take on the BJP in the 2022 elections.

Sk Abdul Kalam, the acting president of Asaduddin Owaisi s AIMIM for the West Bengal unit, joined the Trinamool Congress on Saturday along with several other members of the Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM. This move comes months ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections of 2021.
Kalam joined the TMC at its headquarters in Kolkata. Stating his reasons for joining the TMC, Kalam said there has been an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in West Bengal for several years and he switched sides to keep the poisonous air at bay.
