West Bengal Polls Phase VIII: 15.44 pc voter turnout recorded till 9:30 am ANI | Updated: Apr 29, 2021 10:58 IST Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 29 (ANI): An approximate 15.44 per cent voter turnout has been recorded till 9:30 am as the eighth and the final phase of West Bengal assembly elections is underway on Thursday, according to the Election Commission (EC). Voting for the the last phase of West Bengal assembly elections began at 7 am and will continue till 6:30 am. Meanwhile, voting began with a half an hour delay due to a glitch in the EVM, at polling booth number 188 in Birbhum. As many as 283 candidates, including 35 women, are in the fray in the last phase of the assembly elections where polling is being held in 35 constituencies in four districts.

As many as 283 candidates are contesting on 35 seats that go to poll today in the last of eight-phase assembly election in West Bengal. NEW DELHI: Polling began at 7 am on Thursday for 35 seats in the eighth phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal amid the rampaging second wave of Covid-19. Long queues were seen outside most polling booths since early morning, raising concern over the spread of the infection even as the Election Commission said that all precautionary measures are in place. The state registered its highest single-day spike of 17,207 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, while 77 more people succumbed to the disease.

Amid surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, voting began on Thursday morning for the eighth and last phase of the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal. As many as 283 candidates, including 35 women, are in the fray in the last phase of the assembly elections where polling is being held in 35 constituencies in four districts. The 35 constituencies are spread across four districts. Among these, six are in Malda, eleven in Birbhum, eleven in Murshidabad and seven in Kolkata. Over 84.77 lakh electorates, including 41.21 lakh women and 158 third gender persons, would be casting their votes at as many as 11,860 polling stations in phase VIII.

Voting for the the last phase of West Bengal assembly elections began at 7 am and will continue till 6:30 am. TMC supporters gheraoed car of BJP candidate Kalyan Chaubey in Maniktala, North Kolkata. Kalyan Chaubey said, Our polling agent was sitting inside when a 50-yr-old woman came to vote instead of a 31-yr-old woman. When the agent objected she was scolded. This is hooliganism of TMC.

76% turnout recorded till 5:30 pm in last phase of West Bengal election

An approximate 76.07 per cent voter turnout has been recorded till 5:30 pm Voting for the last phase of West Bengal assembly elections began at 7 am and will continue till 6:30 am. Among the four districts, Birbhum recorded the highest voter turnout of 81.82 per cent till 5:30 pm. Constituency-wise, Hariharpara in the Murshidabad district recorded the highest voter turnout of 84.19 per cent followed by Labhpur in Birbhum district at 84.03 per cent. Jorasanko constituency in Kolkata witnessed the lowest voter turnout at 48.45 per cent. Meanwhile, Congress MP and party s state chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury cast his vote at a polling booth in Murshidabad.
