Hyderabad, April 25 : The April 30 election to seven urban local bodies in Telangana is drawing more attention for being conducted amid an intense second wave of Covid-19 pandemic than the contest among political parties.
Despite the demands by opposition parties to postpone the polls in view of the massive surge in Covid cases across the state, the State Election Commission (SEC) is going ahead with the conduct of the polls as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government is not in favour of deferring the elections.

Kolkata : Polling began on Thursday morning for the sixth phase of the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal. “The people of West Bengal are voting to elect a new assembly. On the sixth phase today, urging those whose seats are polling to exercise their franchise,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of polling. As many as 306 candidates, including 27 women, are in the fray in this phase of the assembly elections where polling is being held in 43 constituencies in four districts. Over 1.03 crore voters, including 50.65 lakh women and 256 of the third gender, will be deciding the fate of these candidates across 14,480 polling stations in the sixth phase. On Thursday polling began for 43 seats in the sixth phase of the West Bengal Assembly election 2021 amid tight security. In this phase, the election is conducted in nine constituencies each in North Dinajpur and Nadia districts, 17 in North 24 Parganas, and eight in East Burdwan. 10,409,948 electorates will decide the fate of 306 candidates among which 27 candidates are female.

Polling began at 7 am on Thursday for 43 seats in the sixth phase of the assembly election in West Bengal amid a surge in COVID-19 cases with the state reporting record infections. Long queues were seen outside most of the polling booths even before the voting began.
