In Ireland there will be a large number of Covid-19-related deaths over the coming weeks warned the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan. Holohan issued the demands for people to stay at home after news this week of large numbers of patients dying with the virus since Tuesday, the highest daily numbers in nearly nine months. All but two deaths occurred in January. Holohan attributed the increase in deaths to unsustainable infection rates and demanded that people must stay home out of respect for those who lost died or were in the hospital. Thankfully case numbers have dropped and are at their lowest daily figure since New Year’s Day. More cases were recorded in Galway than in Dublin, although it made up only a fraction of the capital’s population. In Monaghan, the most affected county today, one in 38 people has the virus.
