Niger re-run: INEC declares APC ineligible for Feb 6 poll

The court-ordered re-run election into Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State would take place on Saturday, February 6, 2021, the Independent National Electoral Commission has said.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), Festus Okoye, made the announcement in a statement issued on Thursday evening in Abuja at the end of its management meeting.
According to him, the meeting deliberated on some issues including the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered on November 17, 2020, which affirmed the nullification of the return of Kasimu Danjuma of the All Progressives Congress as a member representing Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State.
The electoral body also said the rerun election would take place on Saturday, February 6, 2021.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday evening by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Festus Okoye, after a management meeting of the commission in Abuja.
According to him, the meeting deliberated on some issues including the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered on November 17, 2020, which affirmed the nullification of the return of Kasimu Danjuma of the APC as a member representing Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State.
Okoye recalled that INEC conducted a bye-election in Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State on March 14 2020 and returned Kasimu Danjuma of APC as duly elected.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 6, 2021 for the rerun of the election for Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State.
The spokesperson of INEC, Festus Okoye, in a statement on Thursday, said only three candidates would run in the poll. They are those of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
INEC said the re-run election followed the Court of Appeal affirmation of the election petition tribunal’s nullification of Kasimu Danjuma of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the seat from a March 4 bye-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the re-run election for Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency, Niger for February 6, 2021.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, in a statement in Abuja, said the decision was taken at the commission’s meeting on Thursday.
Okoye said that the Commission met and deliberated on a number of issues including the Court of Appeal judgement on Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency election.
He recalled that the Commission conducted a by-election in Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency on March 14
and returned Kasimu Danjuma of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as duly elected.
