Yako defeated Abdulmumini Jibrin in the by-election held after a Court ordered the re-run for Bebeji/Kiru federal constituency of Kano State.
It has been widely believed that he won the election based on an arrangement with some forces within the APC that were against Jibrin.
Many people also believed that one of the conditions for the support from the APC was that he agreed to defect after winning the election.
Announcing the defections, the Speaker said the members defected to the APC based on their convictions and agreement with their constituents.

No doubt the much talked about by-election in Imo North senatorial zone of the state has come and gone but with a lot of worries on who the winner is. Instructively, any election without a clear winner is indeed work in progress.
Therefore, there is no gain celebrating an unfinished assignment that is yet to be finally concluded. It behooves the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the authentic winner instead of shifting her constitutional role to the judiciary to determine who among the contending candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should be declared the winner.

FORMER Chief Judge of Anambra State and a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Peter Umeadi has condemned the recent abduction of students of Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Kankara, Katsina State.
Hundreds of GSSS students were abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen last week.
In a statement by the South East Coordinator of Prof. Peter Umeadi Contact Group, the ex-CJ said: “Dear brothers and sisters, my heart goes out to all the students of Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Kankara, Katsina State who were recently abducted.
“I stand in expectation and anticipation with their parents, the Government of Katsina State and Nigerians in general, of their return to safety.

Blessing Onu Mark, the daughter of former Senate President David Mark, at the weekend led hundreds of other All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State.
Blessing, a lawmaker, represents Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency of Benue State.
Members of other political parties also defected with her to the APC.
She won the election to represent Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency on the platform of APGA, defeating the PDP and APC candidates in 2019.
On Saturday, she joined the APC alongside her supporters in Benue South Senatorial Districts with nine local governments.
