A body has been recovered from the Columbia River near the Glenn Jackson Bridge, days after a driver slid off the span and into the water during a winter storm.
Portland police confirmed Wednesday evening that Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office’s divers had recovered a body from a car found in the river.
Witnesses reported seeing a maroon SUV that was driving south on the bridge, which connects Oregon and Washington, hit a patch of ice, go up over a snow embankment and into the water about 5:45 p.m. Sunday. The crash happened as a major winter storm was hitting the region, creating hazardous road conditions throughout the Portland area.

The man who lost control of his vehicle on the Interstate 205 bridge on Sunday, plunging into the Columbia River below, was identified Thursday as a 57-year-old Portland man, officials said.
Portland police officially confirmed the man as Antonio Amaro-Lopez. His family had previously said Amaro-Lopez was likely the driver, as he had never arrived home from Sunday evening after leaving his job at his family’s Hazel Dell restaurant.
