That number is not expanding as rapidly local as health officials might like.
The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District has noted a slowdown in those attending its clinics, health district director Annette Lerma said. The current percentages reflect changing denominators as guidelines on who can take the vaccine have expanded.
But while the number of those who can be vaccinated has increased, the decline in participation has prompted the health district to reduce mass clinics to once a week, Lerma said. The number that we were doing each week, we could easily do in one day, she said. And, honestly, we could probably do it in a half a day. But we wanted to still leave an entire day for people to schedule what s convenient for them.
COVID-19: Taylor County adds 1 new case Tuesday; inpatients down to 10
The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District on Tuesday reported a single new case of COVID-19 confirmed with an antigen test and 24 recoveries.
Active cases total 185 (72 from polymerase chain reaction tests and 113 from antigen tests). A week ago, active cases numbered 218.
COVID-19 inpatients at Abilene hospitals total 10, which is one fewer than Monday. The average age of the patients is 61, and seven live outside Taylor County.
The percentage of COVID-19 inpatients in the Abilene trauma service area was 1.32% Sunday, compared to 1.14% Saturday and 1.32% Friday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 website.
