The Stark County Health Department will begin vaccinating the new age group as soon as the Ohio Department of Health gives the go-ahead. That s expected to be any day now, said Kay Conley, director of administration and support services at the county agency.
Stark County has vaccinated a number of 16 and 17 year olds at recent clinics, including those this week set at outlying schools in the county, she said. We’ve had a number of calls from parents asking when they can schedule their child for their vaccination, Conley said.
How to get the jab
Right now, only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for people under 18.
I feel better for getting it, Lewis said afterward.

Therefore, the Department reminds residents they have Radon Home Test kits available for purchase through their offices in Kewanee and Colona. The kits are being offered at the low cost of $15 per kit.
The department is urging folks to keep existing second dose appointments made elsewhere.
To schedule an appointment with the health department, go to armorvax.com or download the ArmorVax app on iPhone or Android devices. You also can schedule by phone at 330-451-1681.
Vaccines are available for those 16 and older. Minors will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will have to sign a release form.
The department is offering the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. If you ve received a Moderna vaccine, you can use the vaccine locator tool at Coronavirus.StarkCountyOhio.gov to find open appointments, or see the state s website at gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov.

RaeAnn Tucker, director of health promotion notes, Patients often recognize that a nurse is the health care professional with whom they and their families have the most direct contact. But they might not realize that nurses also are leaders in improving the quality of care and expanding access to care. That’s why May 6-12 is celebrated as National Nurses Week
