NEW PHILADELPHIA Zachary A. Bloom had to be revived with an opioid overdose antidote after he drove across the median of U.S. Route 250 early on the afternoon of Aug. 16, 2018, according to assistant Tuscarawas County prosecutor Scott Deedrick.
The Midvale resident, high on fentanyl, drove a car head-on into a pickup driven by a Jewett man, 45. The truck s passenger was a coworker, a 60-year-old woman from the village of Tuscarawas.
She suffered a spinal fracture, Deedrick said at Bloom s sentencing for felonious assault and other charges on Tuesday. She required surgery and a long recovery. She suffered significant pain and had numerous doctor visits. She has difficulty getting up, getting down and sleeping. She has panic attacks, anxiety attacks and nightmares. She and her husband went through hell to get through the ordeal, Deedrick said.

CANTON – Police are investigating the death of a prisoner at the Stark Regional Community Correction Center.
David A. Unklesbay, 59, of Gateway Boulevard NE, was found dead about 6 a.m. Tuesday at the facility at 4433 Lesh St. NE.
A nurse called 911, calmly telling a dispatcher that one of our residents is dead. I don t feel a pulse, I don t see any breath, she said. She directs them to come to admissions on the male side of the building.
Police declined to comment, saying the incident remained under investigation on Wednesday.

Jamie S. Nelson sentenced for role in storage unit thefts

NEW PHILADELPHIA A 34-year-old woman from the Bolivar area has been ordered to successfully complete a residential corrections program for her role in a string of thefts from storage units.
Jamie S. Nelson is to complete the program at Stark Regional Community Correction Center in Louisville under terms of a sentence given Tuesday by Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos. The requirement is a condition of two years probation ordered by Thomakos. The probation is to be served in place of a two-year prison sentence, which the judge reserved for imposition if probation terms are not met.
NEW PHILADELPHIA A 34-year-old woman from the Bolivar area has admitted to her role in a string of thefts from storage units.
Jamie S. Nelson, entered guilty pleas in four cases on Tuesday before Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos. The judge then found her guilty of theft, receiving stolen property, breaking and entering, and aggravated drug possession.
In exchange for her plea, assistant county prosecutor Robert Urban recommended that she receive a two-year prison sentence, to be reserved in favor of completion of a program at a community-based correctional program such as the Stark Regional Community Correction Center in Louisville. The recommendation included two years probation and an order to pay a total of $2,456 in restitution to four victims.
