Thiruvananthapuram: A CBI special court in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to the catholic priest and nun, who were found guilty of the murder of Sister Abhaya 28 years ago in Kottayam. Special CBI Judge K Sanal Kumar awarded a double life sentence to Father Thomas Kottoor and imposed a fine of Rs 6.5 lakh.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], December 23 (ANI): After finding Father Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy guilty for Sister Abhaya s murder, a CBI special court on Wednesday pronounced the quantum of punishment in the controversial murder case and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
Kottoor and Sephy were charged under Section 302 (murder) and Section 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Along with the sentence, Kottoor will pay Rs 6.5 lakh and Sephy will pay Rs 5.5 lakh as a penalty.
After 28 years, the special CBI court on Tuesday pronounced the verdict in Sister Abhaya case and found Kottoor and Sephy guilty.
