Amara Raja, the makers of lead acid batteries under the Amaron brand, on Monday announced its plans for a foray into the lithium ion segment. The Tirupati-based company also announced the reorganisation of roles and succession as it plans to expand its business.
“From a lead acid battery company we now want to transform into an energy and mobility company. First part is value maximisation of the lead acid business for growth and profitability. Second is entry into new energy which is lithium ion and other related products and services,” industrialist and politician Jayadev Galla told The Telegraph.

Amara Raja Batteries Limited registered a strong performance in FY21 bucking the disruption caused by the Covid pandemic lockdown by registering a strong volume growth across verticals. Growth was aided by volumes in both automotive and industrial applications across all customer segments. These sectors witnessed better- than-expected demand in the last two quarters of the last financial year.
The batteries major posted a profit of ₹646.83 crore and income of ₹7237.14 crore for FY21.
The company completed expansion of capacities in 4Ws/2Ws (by 1.5m/3m units to 14m/20m units) and is expected to deploy a capex of about ₹400-450 crore in FY22, according to Motilal Oswal.

Having secured the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s interim suspension of the orders passed by Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), the Amara Raja Batteries Limited (ARBL) has resumed operations at its plants at Nunegundlapalli (near Chittoor) and Karakambadi (near Tirupati).
Back in the saddle, the company has exuded confidence of meeting all its supply commitments and has assured its stakeholders that the temporary disruption caused during the last few days will not have any material impact on its operations or order book.
