Maharashtra s Amravati has been under a week-long lockdown from 8pm on Monday amid a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the city.
The curfew will continue till 6pm on March 1.
Only shops selling essential items will be allowed to remain open from 8am to 3pm everyday for the public.
To implement the lockdown, 2,000 personnel of the Amravati city police and other security forces have been deployed.
The border of the city has been sealed and the main chowks are being strictly monitored by the personnel at all hours of the day, Amravati Police Commissioner Aarti Singh said today.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced that all political, religious, and social gatherings will be prohibited in the state from February 22.

In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, fresh restrictions and curbs have been imposed in several districts and cities in the state. Maharashtra reported 6,971 new COVID-19 cases and 35 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 21,00,884 with the addition of new cases.
A total of 51,788 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the state so far. Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday (February 21), announced that all political, religious, and social gatherings will be prohibited in the state from Monday (February 22), amid rising COVID-19 cases. Maharashtra government on Sunday decided to impose complete lockdown in Amravati City and Achalpur town of the district from Monday to contain the sudden surge in the Coronavirus cases in the region.

AMRAVATI: Due to the spike in the coronavirus cases in the past few days, Amravati district in Maharashtra s Vidarbha region will be placed under a week-long lockdown from 8 pm on February 22, a state minister said on Sunday.
The lockdown will be in force till 8 am on March 1, minister Yashomati Thakur said.
Apart from the week-long lockdown in Amravati, certain restrictions will be in place in four other districts of Amravati division- Akola, Washim, Buldhana and Yavatmal- with a view to curb the spread of the virus, an official said.
