Amarillo ISD honors teachers during 2021 Teacher of the Year ceremony
During the 2021 Lamar Lively Teacher of the Year ceremony Friday morning at Polk Street United Methodist Church, 50 teachers from across the Amarillo Independent School District were honored as teachers of the year, while also taking the time to look back on the past year and how COVID-19 made an impact on the 2020-21 school year.
Amarillo ISD has been honoring teachers in this fashion since 1989, district officials stated. Judges, consisting of district officials, students and community members, read and evaluated anonymous applications they received for teachers of the year.
While 50 total teachers were honored, the district highlighted two specific teachers as the districts’ 2020-21 elementary teacher of the year and secondary teacher of the year, respectively. Three finalists were chosen for each, consisting of the scores the judges tallied during the evaluation process.
Many adults in this position can expect to jump through hoops to obtain their original birth certificates, often without success. Texas law seals a child’s original birth certificate when the child is adopted and the adoptive parents are issued a new birth certificate listing them as the child’s parents.
As adults, the adoptees then must ask for access to their original birth certificate in a court in the county that granted the adoption and demonstrate to a judge that they have a need to know this information. Failing that, adult adoptees often suffer in silence or pursue expensive DNA tests and investigations when easy access to their original birth records would answer what might well be the most important question of their lives.
