HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday their 2021 AVCA Top Flight Awards with the No. 4 and 5 flight going to a pair of BeachBow Pairs.
UH’s Ilihia Huddleston and Kaylee Glagau took home the award for the No. 4 flight, while the pair of Anna Maidment and Sofia Russo taking the No. 5 flight spot.
May 4, 2021 Beach Volleyball Has Three Pairs Earn AVCA Top Flight Honors
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is pleased to reveal the third annual class of AVCA Top Flight award winners. Introduced in 2018, this awards program is designed to recognize excellence in collegiate beach volleyball from all over the country and across all flights.
The Seminole pairings of Keara Rutz/Torrey Van Winden, Maddie Anderson/Sara Putt and Jenna Johnson/Kate Privett all earned recognition from the AVCA on Tuesday.
In order for a pair to be eligible for the award, two athletes must compete in at least 15 matches together and at a specific flight number. Should that pair win at least 75% of their matches – regardless of the overall result of the dual – those athletes will achieve “Top Flight” status.

LEXINGTON, KY (jimmiepride.com) – Four University of Jamestown women’s volleyball players and head coach Jon Hegerle earned All-Region honors by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Kalli Hegerle (JR/West Fargo, N.D.) and Anna Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) both received West Central Region first team honors.
Hegerle tied for the team lead with a .305 hitting percentage and was second on the Jimmies with 301 kills. Holen led UJ with 322 kills and was second on the team with 498 digs. Hegerle and Holen were also first-team GPAC All-Conference selections this season.
Corina Huff (SR/Breezy Point, Minn.) and Jackie Meiklejohn (JR/Dickey, N.D.) were chosen as honorable mention West Central Region. Huff recorded 222 kills while hitting .277. She also provided strong defense at the net, finishing second on the team in both total blocks (111) and block assists (89). Meiklejohn passed out a team-best 738 assists and tied for second o
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sotiris Siapanis capped off an impressive rookie season by receiving American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention laurels, the organization announced Monday.
The Limassol, Cyprus, native is the 17th Buckeye to earn All-America honors and the first since Jake Hanes in 2019. Siapanis was selected as the MIVA Newcomer of the Year, the fifth Buckeye in program history to achieve the feat, and earned All-MIVA First Team distinction for his efforts this season. He concluded the year ranked eighth nationally with 4.12 kills per set and 14th in points per set (4.60). The 6-foot-3 outside hitter paced Ohio State with a .356 hitting percentage, which checked in at No. 15 in the country. He recorded double figures in kills in all 13 of the matches he played in and hit above .300 on 11 occasions.
