Six scholarships totaling $15,000 available for Beaver County women

Staff Reports American Association of University Women, Beaver Valley Branch, is offering three types of scholarships to Beaver County women and high school girls. Six scholarships totaling $15,000 are available through AAUW. Three high school scholarships of $2,500 each are offered to 2021 female graduates who have a Q.P.A. of at least 3.75 and plan to attend a college or university. The application deadline is March 5. Two non-traditional scholarships of $2,500 each are offered to female students who have returned to school after a considerable gap in time. Candidates must be enrolled in an institute of higher learning with a Q.P.A. of 3.0. Application deadline is March 5.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been appointed the new chief of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) becoming the first woman to ever lead the Switzerland-based institution and the first African citizen to take on the role. This is not the first time Okonjo-Iweala will be making history. She was the first woman to take on the Nigerian finance ministry and the foreign ministry after she graduated from Harvard University in 1976 and then earned a PhD from MIT. Okonjo-Iweala was also the first female to run for the World Bank presidency where she spent 25 years.
