C&P: The thing that stood ou
t to me most about the plan is that the total number of eliminated majors is cut from 18 to 3. What work was necessary to make that possible?
I think it was an enormous amount of work by two groups. One was the faculty to start with. They were fantastic in coming up with some innovative, novel cost savings and revenue-producing results that allowed us to be able to work with our faculty members to be able to retain so many of those majors. Second is that our provost has been wonderful in working with our faculty. It s not just that the faculty submits a proposal and then you either accept it or not. It s a constant dialogue that has happened over the course of the past twelve weeks, and the results of those conversations were that we went from 18 majors down to the three that are being eliminated.
