Hiltzik: Trump s anti-union labor officials have been fired

Continuing his considerable effort to strip the government of all vestiges of Trumpism, President Biden on Tuesday swept a clutch of union-busting officials out of a little-known but all-important federal labor relations agency. The agency is the Federal Service Impasses Panel, which rules on disputes over government union contracts when an agency and its union can’t reach agreement. Trump stacked the 10-member panel with professional union-busters and anti-union ideologues, including corporate lawyers and officials from Koch network-funded right-wing organizations. The diversity of this panel ranges from people who publicly campaign against unions to people that actively litigate against unions.

Joe Biden Fires More Of Trump s Labor Appointees

 | Updated February 3, 2021 President Joe Biden continues to take an ax to former President Donald Trump’s labor policies, removing all 10 of his predecessor’s appointees to the Federal Service Impasses Panel. The FSIP is supposed to resolve bargaining disputes between federal agencies and worker unions. But unions said Trump’s appointees were using the board to essentially rewrite collective bargaining agreements on less favorable terms for workers. They applauded Biden’s decision to remove all of Trump’s appointees, saying the anti-labor tilt of the panel was part of a broader attack on bargaining rights for federal employees. “The outgoing panel, appointed by the previous administration and stacked with transparently biased union-busters, was notorious for ignoring the law to gut workplace rights and further an extreme political agenda,” Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said in a statement.

IWF Joins Coalition In Opposition To A Nationwide $15 Minimum Wage

Dear Member of Congress, On behalf of millions of taxpayers across the country, we urge you to reject proposals to increase the federal minimum wage at a time of unprecedented economic calamity, including President Joe Biden’s push to raise the minimum wage to $15/hour, more than doubling the current minimum wage of $7.25/hour. President Biden’s recent $1.9 trillion “American Rescue Plan” calls on Congress to more than double the federal minimum wage to $15/hour and eliminate the “tipped” minimum wage for servers. The Biden proposal likely mirrors legislation passed by the House in 2019 and reintroduced in 2021, the Raise the Wage Act, which increases the minimum wage to $15 by 2025, indexes it to inflation, and repeals the tipped minimum wage for servers.
