BOISE, Idaho American pet owners spent more than $100 billion on their furry companions in 2020, purchasing everything from veterinary care to a new pack of tennis balls, according to the American Pet Products Association.
Sales have never exceeded that mark until last year, as many people adopted pandemic pets or simply spent more time at home with their animals.
Savannah’s neighborhood pet store Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming has welcomed locals David and Michelle Pence as the new owners of its franchise stores. With six locations in the city, as well as Pooler, the Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming brand has been in the community since 2015, providing professional pet grooming services, healthy pet foods, gourmet baked treats, toys, accessories and pet supplies.
“We just love being part of the community and being able to be a small business owner here,” said David.
Before assuming ownership, the couple were loyal customers of the store and dog lovers at heart. They own a 14-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Lucy who “runs their house”, David says.

For well over a year now, elaborate charcuterie boards have been taking over the social feeds of food enthusiasts. There have been artful assemblages of the usual items, like cheese, meat and fruit, as well as plates topped with desserts and colorful candy.
If by chance you ve seen boards stacked with cookies shaped like dog bones and homemade jerky strips, those aren t for human consumption.

Dogs are the most popular pet in America with 63.4 million U.S. households owning one, according a 2019–2020 survey by the American Pet Products Association. They’re also the most abandoned pets. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reports that approximately 3.3 million dogs end up in shelters each year a considerable number of animals being deserted by owners who find they can’t care for them properly.
