AAN, which has ties to the pharmaceutical industry, kicked off its new campaign last week with an ad that argued that the proposal by congressional Democrats, if passed into law, could mean fewer cures for life-threatening diseases and less access to breakthrough new treatments, like the COVID-19 vaccines.
Group hitting N.J. Dems over bill to cut drug prices got millions from pharm industry

A Republican-leaning outside group that has received millions of dollars from the pharmaceutical industry has targeted four New Jersey representatives as it opposes Rep. Frank Pallone’s bill to lower prescription drug prices.
American Action Network, a nonprofit with ties to the House Republicans’ Congressional Leadership Fund super political action committee, is spending $1.1 million on television and digital ads and phone calls in the districts of Reps. Andy Kim, D-3rd Dist., and Tom Malinowski, D-7th Dist. They are the two New Jersey House Democrats who will face the biggest challenge for re-election next year.

The pharmaceutical industry spent a record $92 million lobbying the federal government during the first three months of 2021, putting Big Pharma on track to break its annual spending record for a second year in a row. The intense lobbying comes as countries across the world are demanding access to patented COVID vaccine technology and many Democrats are pushing to expand Medicare and lower prescription drug prices.

with Alexandra Ellerbeck The pharmaceutical industry keeps turning up the dial on lobbying, setting massive new spending records in its intensive effort to influence Congress and the Biden administration.
Yet the administration isn’t capitulating to all of the industry’s demands. To be fair, the White House did back away from including an industry-hated drug pricing proposal in its latest spending plan. Yet this week, President Biden angered drugmakers when he said he supports the waiving of intellectual property protections for coronavirus vaccines. The industry increased its lobbying spending by 6.3 percent in the first quarter.
