KHS students inspired by VFW art contest

KHS students inspired by VFW art contest Star Courier Two Kewanee High School artists drew from their own patriotic inspiration to win the recent VFW Auxiliary Post 8078 Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The contest, held nationally, recently recognized the works of two local young artists, Chloe Gruszeczka and Katelyn Witte, who won first and second place respectively in the local competition. Gruszeczka s work is of a flag-ingrained eagle swooping from above. For first place, she received a $75 gift certificate. Gruszeczka said she left her comfort zone of portrait work to come up with a concept that best embodied the patriotic theme of the art contest. She said she normally chooses a natural subject and doesn t have to put much thought into it other than making it look real.
