The awards were presented during the chapter’s April 17 meeting at the Blennerhassett Museum. WS City Council Calls on State, Federal Lawmakers To Study Reparations by April Laissle 8:50pm Apr 19, 2021 The resolution calls on Congress to pass House Resolution 40, which would establish a commission that would develop reparations proposals and study the legacy of slavery in the U.S. KERI BROWN/WFDD The Winston-Salem City Council has passed a resolution urging state and federal legislators to study reparations for Black Americans. The measure also apologizes for the city’s role in infrastructure projects that harmed Black residents. The resolution calls on Congress to pass House Resolution 40, which would establish a commission that would develop reparations proposals and study the legacy of slavery in the U.S. It asks state legislators to pass similar legislation.

PARKERSBURG Two members of the Blennerhassett Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution posted wins in the American Heritage Committee annual contest open to all members. With the theme of “Rise and Shine Your Light on Your Revolutionary War Patriot,” Blennerhassett Chapter members Cathy Hinkle placed 1st nationally in the in the unenhanced color photo category and Roberta Gellner placed 2nd in the West Virginia-only contest in Machine Quilted Quilts. Hinkle’s photograph showed a candle reflecting light through a pair of old eyeglasses sitting on her family’s opened bible with her Revolutionary War patriot and his family’s names showing.

Alumni Association to Honor Four with Awards

Alumni Association to Honor Four with Awards April 12, 2021 by Alumni and Family Engagement The Hope College Alumni Association is honoring four alumni with Distinguished Alumni Awards this year. The association plans to celebrate both the 2020 and 2021 honorees virtually at a date to be determined.  The awards are normally presented at the annual Alumni Banquet during Alumni Weekend each April, but this year’s and last year’s in-person events were canceled because of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.
