Elvis, a spunky seven-year-old neutered Lab mix who is up-to-date on all his vaccines, knows how to sit for treats, walks well on a leash, loves attention, and is waiting to give someone all his love. Henrietta is a very sweet three-year-old Boxer mix who knows basic commands such as how to sit, shake, and loves treats and squeaky toys, and is up-to-date on her vaccines. She is micro-chipped and is available now for adoption at the Darke County Animal Shelter in Greenville. Dogs usually do not need vet treatment with viral kennel cough unless they develop secondary bacterial infections. Shannon asked dog owners to keep their dogs at home if symptomatic. “The most important thing is to not panic – spoil them with good food and a good bed. Clean their bowls with bleach. They need to see a vet if they stop eating or drinking.” She understood the infection hit mastiffs and “squish-faced” dogs harder because they were more prone to breathing issues. It was important to keep anxious or easily excited dogs calm. “We had one severe case in an anxious dog. It got upset because of a siren and as soon as their breathing quickened they started to cough and vomited white frothy foam,” she said.
