In this final week of the Missouri Legislature’s regular session, a proposed gas tax hike is expected to jump into the driver’s seat. The House of Representatives is planning to work on a bill that would gradually raise the user fee by 12.5 total cents over five years. Senate President Dave Schatz, R-Sullivan, is proposing the legislation that includes a rebate option for most drivers who do not want to pay for the amount of the increase. The food bank is looking to hire three additional drivers to help with ongoing levels of increased need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Without truck drivers we can’t pick up the food we need to pick up and bring the food where it needs to go,” said Molly Kooi, communication manager with Feeding America West Michigan.
