Alice Wong doesn’t want to take up a whole lot of space. Instead, she wants to create it. And for the better part of the last decade, she has.
“I’m very mindful of making sure that I don’t take up that much space that it’s not just about me, me, me,” the 47-year-old disability activist told HuffPost. “I really want to ensure that other people have the spotlight and amplify the work of other people. That’s what gives me joy.”
TALLAHASSEE, FL â Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill yesterday banning vaccine passports and an executive order that suspends all local government COVID-related emergency mandates.
DeSantis signed Senate Bill 2006, passed by Florida state lawmakers last month granting DeSantis the ability to override local emergency orders. The bill also includes a ban on vaccine passports by state and local government and by private businesses that levies fines of $5,000 per violation. While the bill does not take effect until July 1, DeSantis took executive action to suspend local COVID-19 orders in the state, such as local mask mandates, until it is fully implemented.

Workers Refusing Covid Vaccine Could Lose Their Jobs By Sarah Kopit | May 5, 2021
Texas nurse Jennifer Bridges plans to go to work on June 7, like it’s any other day. The only difference is, when she gets there she expects to be fired.
That day is the deadline her employer, Houston Methodist hospital, has given its staff to get the Covid-19 vaccine, something Bridges, 39, doesn’t want to do.
“There is just not enough research out yet,” she said in an interview. “To be a fully approved vaccination it takes years of trials and research. And this thing has been out less than a year.”
