Tiasha Idrak Tiasha Idrak Today marks the 160th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the polymath who reshaped Bengali music and literature. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) organised an online programme to celebrate the day. As the country enforced restrictions on public movement to curb Covid-19 transmission, BSA opted to pay a tribute to the poet virtually, just as the year before. The virtual event was hosted by singer Tapan Mahmud, and inaugurated by M Badrul Arefin, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. It was presided by Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of BSA.

No outdoor celebration on Pahela Baishakh this year Star file photo UNB, Dhaka UNB, Dhaka The government has asked everyone not to hold any mass gathering and outdoor celebration on Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, to curb the spread of Covid-19.  However, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs called on the people to welcome the Bangla New Year 1428 on April 14 with virtual festivities.  A notification issued by the ministry on Wednesday said, In line with the instructions issued by the Cabinet Division, following the current Covid-19 situation, it is requested that events be organised on online platforms if possible. Mass gatherings should be avoided at any cost.

Ekushey Book Fair to remain open from 12 to 5pm amid lockdown UNB 4th April, 2021 04:46:15 The ongoing Amar Ekushey Book Fair will remain open from 12 to 5 pm every day amid the countrywide seven-day lockdown enforced by the government to fight the 2nd wave of Covid-19. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs issued a notice in this regard on Sunday. It also instructed the authorities concerned to maintain the health guidelines strictly. Earlier, the authorities reduced the daily operational hours of the book fair due to recent surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths. On March 18, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2021.
