The Near North District School Board is expecting to end its current fiscal year in the red.
A decline in enrolment of about 250 students, expenses related to COVID-19, increased snow removal costs at Alliance Public School and consulting expenses are being blamed for the shortfall.

Near North District School Board members were informed these expenses have “shifted projections to expect an approximate $1.5-million deficit.”
Emails to the school board’s communications department were not returned.
According to a report from a finance committee meeting Feb. 1, superintendent of business Liz Therrien was asked by committee chairman John Cochrane to speak on the issue.
