Towards Road Construction Boom: Govt Targets To Build Highways Worth Rs 15 Lakh Crore In Next Two Years

Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said that the government is giving utmost priority to the development of infrastructure and has set a target of road construction of worth Rs 15 lakh crores in next two years.
Gadkari was confident that the Ministry for Road Transport and Highways will achieve a target of 40 kilometres per day of highway construction in the current fiscal. He said that the Government is permitting 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the road sector.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to make Network Survey Vehicle (NSV) use mandatory in order to enhance the quality of National Highways.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a
statement on Tuesday (13 April) said, âIn line with its commitment to provide better roads to commuters, NHAI has decided to deploy Network Survey Vehicle (NSV) to enhance the quality of the National Highways. Carrying out a road condition survey on the National Highways using NSV has been made mandatory at the time of certifying project completion and every six months thereafter.â

An allocation of Rs 25,000 crore was made to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for development of 675 km of roads in West Bengal. This includes upgradation of roads connecting Kolkata with Siliguri.
