New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought a reply from the Centre on a plea which seeks to transfer various pending cases from several High Courts to the top court, where Centre s notification to declare certain religious communities as minorities has been contested. A 3-judge bench led by the CJI has sought replies from the Union Ministries of Home Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice and the Ministry of Minority Affairs. The case has been tagged with similar cases currently pending before the court.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], February 7 (ANI): The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs on Sunday informed that more than 29 lakh people visited Hunar Haat , organised by it at Avadh Shilpgram in Lucknow from January 22 to February 7. Various indigenous products including art metalware and Banarsi saree were available at the event, read a press statement from the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
While talking to media persons in Lucknow today on the concluding day of the event, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, While on one hand exquisite handmade products of almost every region of the country were available under one roof at Hunar Haat , the visitors also enjoyed traditional delicacies of different parts of the country.

Minority as a term has not been defined in India’s Constitution. However, Articles 29 and 30 of the Indian Constitution deals with the minorities. The National Commission of Minorities Act 1992 defined it as, “a community notified as such by the Central government.” There are six notified minorities in India: Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, Christian, Sikh and Muslim. The Indian Government has been working relentlessly for preserving, protecting and developing these minorities in every sphere. That is why we see a separate Ministry for the minorities in the Indian Cabinet: Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA). This Ministry develops frameworks for accomplishing the desired goal that is the upliftment of these minorities. Under the guidance of the Central Government, the MoMA comes up with different schemes and welfare programmes for these minorities from time to time. The schemes are so exhaustive and multi-dimensional in nature that it will take hundred
