The Covid pandemic had an impact on employment in the country as the economic activities slowed down due to lockdown restrictions imposed by central as well as states to contain the spread of deadly virus from March in 2020.

New Delhi: Following a sarcastic message by Congress leader P. Chidambaram, senior Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Rajya Sabha member V. Vijayasai Reddy on Saturday threatened to lodge a complaint with the Chairman.
NEW DELHI: The government has constituted an expert group led by Prof Ajit Mishra, that will give recommendations on fixation of minimum wages and national floor minimum wage. The ministry of labour and employment issued an order and has constituted the Expert Group to provide technical inputs and recommendations on fixation of Minimum Wages and National Floor Minimum Wages, a labour ministry statement said.
Minimum wage is different for different categories of workers.
National floor refers to the minimum level of wage that is applicable to all categories of workers across the country.
The group has been constituted for a period of three years from the date of notification.
The All-India CPI-IW for April, 2021 increased by 0.5 points and stood at 120.1 (one hundred twenty and point one). On 1-month percentage change, it increased by 0.42 per cent with respect to the previous month compared to an increase of 0.92 per cent recorded between corresponding months a year ago.
