ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is bracing to battle the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic as the country saw a three-fold increase in number of people being tested positive everyday in less than three weeks.
Health experts are blaming the reopening of businesses and tourism sector for the resurge in cases and have urged the government to announce a lockdown so that Eidul Azha is celebrated with the observance of strict health-related restrictions.

There are clear early signs of a fourth Covid-19 wave starting in Pakistan due to poor compliance with the standard operating procedures and the spread of the Delta variant, Minister for Planning Asad Umar said on Friday.
Umar, who is also the head of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) to combat Covid-19, said field reports were showing a complete disregard for the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and warned that the government would be forced to shut down wedding halls, indoor restaurants and gyms if they ignored the rules.

ISLAMABAD: Pointing out the threat of fourth wave of Covid-19 in the wake of recent rise in positive cases, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday urged the masses to continue the use of facemask and get themselves vaccinated as early as possible.
“Our [coronavirus] cases, after a downslide, have started rising up. We fear that the Delta variant is coming. I appeal to the nation to use facemask, which is the easiest way, and take protective measures. We can protect ourselves from the fourth wave of Covid-19,” he said in his remarks telecast live.
