The meeting was informed that difference between wholesale and retail prices shows failure of market committees. The meeting decided to immediately dissolve existing market committees in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Prime Minister on this occasion directed to take prompt action against officers in case of any negligence.

Mehmood Nawaz Shah, senior vice president Sindh Abadgar Board said: “Prices are so down that growers are unable to get the cost of production back. Thus, they were removing tomato crop from fields. Two days back, some growers did destroy their crop.” “Though it’s not unusual, it was government’s policy failure that led to this situation. While local onion and tomato were being harvested, traders were still importing them from overseas; however, tomato imports came to a halt after its local prices hit a rock bottom.”

ECC to Review OMC s and Dealer Margins on Petroleum Products

The meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet scheduled for Thursday (January 28) will take up the proposal of the Ministry of Petroleum for review of the oil marketing companies (OMCs) and dealers margins on petroleum products. Sources told Propakistani that the ECC meeting would discuss the summary of the Ministry of Interior on the technical supplementary grant for the surrendered amount of Rs. 42 million by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research under the National ‘Program for Enhancing Command Areas in Barani Areas Project (ICT Component). The ECC is expected to discuss the Petroleum Division summary for allocation of gas from Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL’s) wells to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) under commercial production and also review of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and Dealers margins on petroleum products.
