‘People-to-People’ Support - An Exemplary Contribution Towards Nepal’s Recovery Efforts Format Kathmandu, 21 December 2020 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nepal informed that a project funded by the people of Thailand to support the Nepalese people for their recovery and reconstruction efforts from the earthquake 2015 has concluded on an exemplarily successful note. The results of the project were presented today in Kathmandu. Some of the tangible achievements of the project are: 1. Constructed Eight earthquake-resistant multi-purpose community centers at eight districts hit worst by the earthquake; 2. Document Indicates Corruption in Zabul School Project Documents seen by TOLOnews indicate that despite the allocation of millions of Afs for the construction of a school building in Zabul province, no practical work was started so far. Based on the documents, in 2017 the Afghan Ministry of Urban Development and Housing signed a contract worth 68 million Afs with a private construction company to build a school in Arghandab district of Zabul province, but no practical work has started on the project and 40 million Afs from the funds have been spent. “We have received that report, the issue has been referred to the Attorney General. This is a ghost project, there is a corruption issue,” said Mahmoud Karzai, minister of Urban Development and Housing.

The construction of the Qatar Residential Complex would cost USD 110 million which would be paid and financed by the Al-Gharrafa Foundation, the MUDL in a statement said. At the beginning of the ceremony, executive director of Al-Gharrafa foundation, expressed his gratitude for the immediate cooperation of the Ministry of Urban Development and Lands in transferring the required land and arranging a detailed plan for the construction of the township and pledged to implement the project at the earliest time, the statement added.

Qatari Charity Foundation to Build a Multi-Million Dollar Residential Complex in Kabul

The Al-Gharrafah Charity Foundation is going to build a residential complex with 768 housing units in the fifth district of Kabul city. An agreement to that effect was signed between officials from Al-Gharrafah and the Afghan Ministry of  Ministry of Urban Development and Land on Sunday in Kabul. According to sources, the project is worth USD 110 millions and will be fully funded by the Qatari charity foundation. The residential complex will be built on a 32 acres of land. The complex will include 8 12-story buildings with 768 residential units, 3 7-story commercial blocks, a mosque sanctuary, two schools, an orphanage and two 5-story business centers.
