INEC fixes new date for Jigawa by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the conduct of by-election for Kafin Hausa State Constituency, Jigawa State for Saturday, March 6.
The commission disclosed this in a statement and election timetable issued by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye, on Thursday in Abuja.
Okoye said that the commission met and deliberated on a number of issues including the conduct of the state constituency by-election.
The vacancy arose as a result of the death of Adamu Baban-Bare, member representing Kafin Hausa State Constituency and the subsequent declaration of vacancy for the Constituency by the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly.

About 400 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dumped the party for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state.
The defectors were led by the APC Vice Chairmanship candidate in the December 18th 2020 LG poll held across the state, including executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP decampees during the declaration ceremony in Umuahia South LGA, on Thursday, Comrade Ifeanyi Duke, expressed joy they joined the ruling PDP in the state.
He explained that they were motivated to join PDP because of the massive infrastructural development executed by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration, as well as the excellent performance of the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Chris Ezem.
Bandits surrender 14 AK-47 riffles, live ammunition in Zamfara

No fewer than seven armed bandits in Zamfara State have surrendered 14 AK-47 riffles, live ammunitions and other sophisticated weapons used in their nefarious operations in the north west zone.
The ceremony took place at the state Government House in Gusau, the state capital before the watchful eyes of the state governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
DAILY POST reports that the repentant bandits also took oaths, promising never to return to banditry again, saying that nobody forced them to drop their arms and ammunition.
“We embraced the peace accord and reconciliation initiative just to allow peace and harmony to reign in the state,” they said.

The decision was taken at the 11th Plenary Meeting in Abuja.
PSC Chairman, Musiliu Smith, a former Inspector General of Police, presided over the meeting.
Nine Commissioners of Police (CPs) were promoted to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs); another nine were elevated from the rank of Deputy Commissioner to CPs.
Three Chief Superintendents were moved to Assistant Commissioners of Police; 1,577 Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents of Police and 2,293 Assistant Superintendents to Deputy Superintendents of Police.
PSC also elevated 7,283 Assistant Superintendents (ASP11) to Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP1), 9,072 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP11) and 110 Inspectors promoted to Senior Inspectors.
