Taipei, May 24 (CNA) Industrial production for April rose from a year earlier, marking the 15th consecutive month of year-on-year growth, as Taiwanese tech suppliers continued to enjoy solid global demand and the old economy sector saw their fundamentals recovering, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said Monday.
Data compiled by the MOEA showed that the April industrial production index rose 13.62 percent from a year earlier to 122.80 after a 16.06 percent year-on-year increase in March.
The sub-index for the export-oriented manufacturing sector, which accounts for more than 90 percent of total production, grew 14.24 percent from a year earlier to 124.78, also marking the 15th straight month of year-on-year growth, the data indicated.

The industrial production index last month rose for the 15th consecutive month on an annual basis on the back of rising demand for semiconductor and electronic products, due to the stay-at-home economy and demand for 5G-related devices amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday.
On a monthly basis, industrial production and manufacturing output dropped 9.26 percent and 9.88 percent respectively, the ministry said.
TAIPEI (The China Post) â Taiwan Premier Su Tseng-chang (èè²æ) on Monday asked local governments to follow the virus-prevention measures issued by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC, ä¸å¤®æµè¡ç«æ

Speaking during a meeting, Su listened to reports from various ministries and commissions on the domestic epidemic situation, financial situation, and vaccine production and procurement progress, whilst also initiating a discussion on the follow-up response to the pandemic development.
Su also called on the CECC to understand the needs of local governments in the daily national epidemic conference and integrate and coordinate relevant epidemic-prevention actions to avoid different regulations that may cause confusion among the public.
