‘Legislation to protect prisoners’ rights’

Islamabad : A spokesman for the Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) Thursday said the government had made a number of effective legislation to ensure protecting rights of prisoners.
In a short span of time, the ministry made milestone achievement in protecting the rights of prisoners, spokesman, who is also MoHR Director General Muhammad Arshad told APP. He said the ministry had fully implemented the Criminal Justice Legal Aid & Justice Authority Legal Act 2020, which was aimed at providing legal, financial and other assistance to the poor and vulnerable segments of the society in criminal cases in jails.

Islamabad: Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) has taken several initiatives for transgenders right during past year including several awareness workshops, transgenders representation in UN, allocation in government jobs and creating educational institutes for them.
An official document revealed that MoHR has conducted several workshops to raise awareness about the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) 2020. It added that in 2020, Pakistan became the first country in the world to get transgender member in its official delegation to the UN Convention Women Committee in Geneva. Document further revealed that it’s committee to address the stigmatization and marginalized of transgender community MoHR established the first Transgender Protection Centre in collaboration with UNDP. This initiative also created specific government jobs for transgender BPS .

The Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) launched its annual performance report 2020 at an interactive media engagement session held on Monday.
The report highlighted significant initiatives taken to protect and promote the rights of women, children, people with disabilities, transgender women, and other vulnerable population groups.
The report also included chapters on the ministry s progress in projects under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP); special initiatives launched to mitigate the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic as well as the engagements of the Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari.
