Estonia and the United States funding effort on 5G military mobility

In late January, the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (NATO CCDCOE) launches an initiative focused on the security of fifth generation (5G) telecommunications networks with the aim to analyse 5G security in the context of military mobility. The international team at the CCDCOE was awarded funding by both the US Department of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, and its first stage spans one year.
Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu said the security of communications networks is not only a technical matter, but also a strategic security issue. “The CCDCOE´s 5G project is the result of the work of Estonian diplomats and it gives an opportunity to develop NATO’s threat perception in the area of 5G security and an understanding how potential risks can be mitigated and prevented with technical standards for 5G and subsequent networks,” Reinsalu said.

Foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania discussed Baltic travel restrictions and vaccine procurement

Yesterday, at this year’s first video meeting of the Baltic cooperation format, the foreign affairs ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania discussed restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, testing and the availability of vaccines in the European Union.
Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu said the Baltic States have been in close communication throughout the coronavirus crisis and this would continue this year. “With the foreign ministers of Latvia and Lithuania, we are constantly looking for ways to implement restrictions as optimally as possible to allow our citizens to move between our countries when necessary,” Reinsalu said. “We must take various measures to ensure safety and review them regularly. We affirmed we were ready to coordinate travel restrictions.”

Updated information about countries and self-isolation requirements for passengers arriving in Estonia as of 1 January

Starting from Monday 4 January, the mandatory self-isolation does not apply to passengers arriving in Estonia from a country of the European Union and the European Economic Area, the Schengen area and a country included on the common list of the EU with an infection rate below 50 persons per 100 000 inhabitants.
Based on the coronavirus infection rate, starting from Monday 4 January, the 10-day restriction on the freedom of movement applies to people arriving in Estonia from the following European countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland , France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia , Liechtenstein, Lithuania , Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slova
