Responding to BBC news on Rohingyas adrift in the sea, Bangladesh has said it is respectful of its international obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), noting that other states should fulfil their obligation under international law and burden-sharing principle.
“Other states, particularly those, on whose territorial water the vessel has been found bears the primary responsibility and they should fulfil their obligation under international law and burden-sharing principle,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Thursday.
In a press statement, MoFA said the attention of the Government of Bangladesh has been drawn to a news article carried by BBC under the headline Rohingya Crisis: UN urges rescue of refugees adrift at sea.
