On 28 June, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS to be held in Rome.
The meeting will be co-hosted by US Secretary of State
Antony Blinken and Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs
Luigi Di Maio. Ministers will discuss ways to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria and especially in the Sahel and Mozambique in Africa.
“Finland is committed to the work of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. Progress has been made in the work in Iraq and Syria, but there is still work that needs to be done. To achieve sustainable results, the fight against terrorism must be complemented by comprehensive support,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has decided to extend the advice against travel introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision means that the advice against non-essential travel to many countries around the world will be extended until 1 July. At the same time, more countries have been removed from the list.
The pandemic is not over and in many places the situation remains uncertain. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has therefore decided to extend its advice against non-essential travel to most countries until 1 July.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has launched projects to promote peace and reconciliation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia. The aim of the projects that are expected to last until 2023 is to encourage young people to work for peace and to use media skills as a way of exerting influence. Lasting a few days at the end of 2019 and 2020, the Salam Programme for Iraq and Afghanistan was implemented by organising workshops for young people. The participants discussed, among other things, storytelling, media work, societal influence and the promotion of peace and reconciliation. After the workshops, the young people were appointed young ambassadors for peace.
