Minister of Health Jonas Chanda has launched the programme to construct John Laing mini hospital aimed at taking health services closer to the people of Kanyama area.
Dr. Chanda noted that the construction of John Laing mini hospital is one of government’s promises and commitments to achieving universal health coverage through equity of access to cost effective and quality health care services.
He said John Laing mini hospital is among the 108 mini hospitals that the government has planned to construct across the country.
Dr. Chanda further said once completed, John Laing mini hospital will decongest Kanyama level one hospital.
Minister of Health Jonas Chanda has announced that an additional 3,847 doses of both the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines were administered in the last 24 hrs that included 2,559 and 1,288 doses respectively, bringing the cumulative number of vaccinated persons to 43,147.
“Today marks day 18 since the national launch of the vaccination programme and it is encouraging to note that we have vaccinated 43,147 people with an increasing upward trajectory. It is gratifying that the Zambian people have come to accept and understand the importance of the COVID-19 Vaccines,” he added.
In a statement issued to the media yesterday, Dr. Chanda who reiterated his call on everyone to get vaccinated, said currently the Country has 236 vaccination sites with 21 sites in Lusaka, 12 in Muchinga, 30 in the Northern, 11 in North-western, 31 in Eastern, 30 in Central, 27 in Luapula, 35 on the Copperbelt, 30 in Western and nine in Southern province.
Minister of Health Jonas Chanda says despite a reduction in the number of new COVID- 19 cases, Zambia has continued to observe a stagnation in the number of cases requiring hospitalisation, with a slight increases in admissions and critical cases noted in the past few days.
Dr. Chanda says the development is a reminder of the fact that community transmission is still ongoing and people remain at risk of contracting the disease.
In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, the Minister has encouraged health workers to maintain a high index of suspicion even in spite of the reduced numbers of cases being recorded in order to timely isolate and treat cases while ensuring that the chains of transmission are broken.
