Tourism Minister lays foundation stone for facility A ₹3-crore pilgrim amenity centre is coming up at the Madre de Deus Church, Vettucaud, here. The facility is part of Kerala Tourism’s Pilgrim Circuit, launched to promote pilgrim tourism by connecting various pilgrim centres in the State. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran, in his address after laying the foundation stone for the centre, said the government had launched a string of projects in different parts of the State to step up infrastructural facilities for tourism. “This is for the first time that a government is taking initiatives for creating infrastructure facilities in places of worship. Madre de Deus Church, which reminds of ancient churches in Rome because of its architectural features, has historical importance,” he said.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to dedicate Arts & Crafts Village at Vellar on Jan 16 Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will dedicate the first phase of Kerala Arts & Crafts Village at Vellar near Kovalam here on January 16, as a sprawling campus to promote and showcase Kerala’s vibrant art and cultural heritage.   Spread around 8.5 acres of panoramic locale, Kerala Arts and Crafts Village has been designed and implemented by Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Ltd (ULCCS Ltd) for Kerala Tourism Department, making it an ideal destination for visitors and art buffs alike to enjoy the best of Kerala’s traditional, folk and ethnic art, craft and performing traditions. ULCCS has completed the first phase of the project at a cost of INR 20 crore.

Image Source: IANS News Thiruvananathapuram, Jan 14 : Coronavirus pandemic took a toll on the famous Makaravilakku prayers held on Thursday morning at Sabarimala in Kerala, as authorities had restricted the number of devotees at the hill shrine amid strict adherence to health protocols. The state government had allowed only 5,000 devotees to pay obeisance at the temple compared with an estimated crowd of around 6 lakh in normal times and that too by following all COVID protocols, including RT-PCR tests.
