大新竹合併議題延燒，新竹縣長楊文科今天（22日）上媒體人黃光芹的網路直播節目，重申要併就要竹竹苗合併並升格，且支持透公投方式詢問民意；他也提及，新竹市長林智堅多次提到科技產業、中美貿易戰等論點，強調縣市合併的重要性，讓他覺得「地方首長有這樣的格局，不當行政院長太可惜了」。楊文科表示，支持竹竹苗合併升格的原因，從產業面來看，從竹科、竹南、銅鑼到台中，總共100公里的科技走廊，中斷太可惜；同時，在日治時代桃竹苗區域為新竹州，竹竹苗本是共同生活圈，合併如果不併苗栗「太傷感情」；此外，也唯有加入苗栗，竹竹苗共約156萬人口，才符合「地方制度法」的升格門檻。
