Ionia woman ejected from vehicle, seriously injured in crash

IONIA A 25-year-old Ionia woman was transported Thursday to a Grand Rapids hospital with serious injuries after being ejected from her vehicle involved in a crash.
Deputies with the Ionia County Sheriff s Office and officers with the Ionia Department of Public Safety responded Thursday, May 6, to the scene at E. Main Street and Fourth Street.
The investigation determined the Ionia woman s vehicle crossed the centerline and crashed into a commercial vehicle. Witnesses told police the Ionia woman was ejected from her vehicle after it overturned.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured.
Multiple agencies respond to house fire in Portland

PORTLAND Multiple emergency and first responder crews responded to a house fire early Wednesday.
The Portland Area Fire Authority was dispatched to a large residential structure fire before 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the 400 block of West Grand River Avenue in Portland.
There were no injuries in the fire, but the home is a total loss, according to the PAFA.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Portland Ambulance, the Portland Police Department, the Portland Department of Public Works, Portland Electric, the Lyons-Muir Fire Department, the Berlin-Orange Fire Department, the Westphalia Township Fire Department, the Pewamo Fire Department, the Sunfield Fire Department, the Ionia Department of Public Safety, Ionia County Victim Advocates, American Red Cross, Ionia County Sheriff’s Office and Ionia County Central Dispatch assisted the PAFA at the scene.

IONIA, Mich. â Officers responded to reports of a woman who had fallen through ice in the Grand River this afternoon.
The Ionia Department of Public Safety says the 17-year-old was unable to provide her exact location, so a search was conducted until she was found near the Cleveland Street bridge.
They tell us a firefighter in an ice-rescue suit reached the victim and picked her up from the water. Public Safety says she was then warmed and taken to the Cleveland Street bridge where paramedics administered treatment and took her to Sparrow Ionia Hospital.

IONIA TWP. Authorities have identified the woman who was killed in the Feb. 18 house fire in Ionia Township.
Judy Brooks, 66, was found dead inside the home, according to the Ionia Department of Public Safety.
A Facebook fundraiser was created for Brooks’ funeral expenses. It has raised $1,175 as of Monday, Feb. 22.
Ionia DPS Director Troy Thomas told The Sentinel-Standard on Monday the origin of the fire was in the south wall of the residence.
An exact cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time, Thomas said. The Ionia DPS and state fire marshal are investigating the cause.
